John Reel on way back - watch our two-year-olds

It was good see John Reel, on his come back after a holiday, gain a creditble second in a conditions race at Lingfield and we look forward to a successful season with him.

Buying Trouble also looks a good prospect for the forthcoming Flat season after winning her maiden and then following up with a handicap success at Lingfield.  Flowers of Venus just got denied at Southwell in a tough handicap and has the makings of a useful sprint prospect.

Its an exciting time of the year for our two-year-olds. I am really looking forward to the Flat because we have some lovely looking two-years-old to run.

Gracious John boost for stallion Baltic King

Gracious John's success in France in the Listed Prix Zeddan completes a hatrick of wins for the Baltic King colt and owner Terry Reffell. The stable is hopeful of similar success with another son of Baltic King that Dave purchased as a yearling. This colt has the potential to be a real speedy sort out of a mare by the very fast Primo Dominie, from the family of 2000 Guineas winner To-Agori-Mou.  We have some really quality yearlings for sale this year, including a quality colt by Kyllachy and a half-sister by Sir Prancealot to our 13-times winner Carcinetto - Emma, November 3, 2015.

What a weekend - let's hope its a winning one

We may be coming to the end of the season but what a weekend we have in prospect.  We have the in-form Wordiness in the Cesarewitch at Newmarket on Saturday. He's in good form and carries 8-6 with Silvestre De Sousa on board.  We are also off to York with two runners on the Friday and two on Saturday and we have high hopes of Gracious John and jockey John Egan in the listed Rockingham Stakes. John also rides Paddys Motorbike in the opener on Saturday.

On Friday we have in-form Zeeoneandonly in the opening nursery with David Probert on board and the 3lb claimer Tom Marquand rides  Sir Billy Wright later in the 5f handicap.  Let's hope for a winning weekend.  There's no rest for Dave as he's off to Newmarket next week - so if you want a yearling or something has caught your eye in the sales catalogue let us know  - Emma October 8, 2015

Two-year-olds go well in Ireland

Zeeoneandonly and Petty Cash put up good performances in the prestigious Tattersalls of Ireland Super Auction Sales Stakes and it gives us huge encouragement for next season as we prepare for the delivery of some quality yearlings. Zeeoneandonly was only beaten two and a half lengths and picked up a good prize after being prominent for most of the way in the hands of our claimer Philip Prince. Drawn on the far side, Petty Cash ridden by John Egan never had the chance to get in a telling blow.

Hillgrove Angel is off to join Linda Perratt's team after landing the seller at Chepstow - it seems we always like having a winner on a Monday - Emma Sept 18, 2015

Surf & Turf

Wasn't it great to get a mention from Robin Gibson in his Surf & Turf column in the Racing Post. Completely unexpected and clearly an item for my first entry into our blog from the sleepy, rollng hills of Abergavenny. I must admit Robin its not so much the fun but the amount of graft we do - we are really busy.

But what an accolade for Dave to be called one of the best trainers around. We do continue to churn out the winners and are on the 60 mark already this season. Over the last five years its been 82, 77, 115 and 66 with hopefully more to come in 2015.

And as far as pouring water over the rumours that Dave's to replace Aidan O'Brien - well the nearest Dave is likely to get to Ballydole is when he visits Fairyhouse sales at the end of the month. He's got orders from a number of our owners but would welcome more - so if you are interested give us a call; we would be only too glad to act on your behalf. We will looking to upgrade our stock significantly next season and aim to purchase much better quality yearlings in a bid to make our mark in Group company.

Perhaps another initiative for next season will be to form our own racing club in a bid to get more racing enthusiasts involved - so watch this space and by the way Cheers ! Robin - thanks for the plug - Emma Sept 1, 2015
