Meet the team!
Emma Evans
Assistant trainer and lady amateur rider – Born in Shropshire, Emma has been with the yard for six years after starting in racing at 17. Has spent time with Jenny Pitman, David Murry-Smith, Bryan Smart, Paul Cole and gained valuable experience during her 12 years in Lambourn and also Newmarket for Alec Stewart doing a variety of racing jobs. She has ridden 13 winners on the Flat. She also deals with most of the office duties.
Richard Evans
7st.12lbs: Richard, the trainer’s youngest son, took out his amateur licence in 2007 and landed his first success under rules when guiding Ronsard to victory at Bath. He started riding at the age of four, progressing to working hunter and showjumping classes and finally to riding work at the age of 11. Since November 2007, Richard has turned apprentice and done really well riding 20 winners and now down to a 5 lb claim!
Tara Mitchell
Tara is from Llananthony and has worked with horses all her life, including handling stallions, breaking young stock and working in the trekking industry. She has worked at the stable for seven years and is very experienced in dealing with difficult horses. She enjoys going racing and turns her horses out to a very high standard.
Emma Finnegan
Emma has now been with us 5 years. She has a vast experience in racing and is one of our most valued work riders. She had the job of riding The Kiddykid every day so has some very strong arms as he can be very keen on some mornings and he is built like a tank!! Emma also is fantastic with the vet and medicine and deals with all the minor ailments. She is a great asset to the operation.
Hannah Jones
Hannah has ten years experience with horses having evented all her life and worked in top eventing yards such as Cotswold-based Jonty Evans. She is from Abergavenny and joined the Tyderlwyn stable in January with the hope of taking out a licence to ride as an amateur.
Rebecca Dagge
Rebecca is from Hereford and enjoys the best of both worlds. She joined the stable this summer having spent the winter with Venetia Williams and plans to return there at the end of the Flat season. She has ridden all her life and spent her spare time show jumping at a local level before getting involved in racing.
Kevin Lundie
Kevin, who is from Coventry, had no experience of horses when he joined the yard straight from school 12 months ago. He spent nine weeks at the Newmarket Racing School, now has an apprentice licence, and at seven stone hopes to make career as a lightweight jockey on the Flat.
Amy Myatt
Amy is enjoying her second stint at the yard and rides work on top two-year-old Star Rover. She was born in the West Midlands and has been in racing for ten years, starting with Reg Hollinshead and then with John Spearing, where she had a couple of rides on the Flat.
Pam Hall
Pam, who has run the office for six years, has an equestrian background, having competed in show jumping events across the UK and ridden in point-to-points. Away from her office duties, she enjoys race horse ownership and has been involved in such good winners as Heaven or Hell, Miss Phoebe and Green Lagonda.
Babu Singh
Babu is from Jodhpur, Rajasthan in India. He has been at Tyderlwyn for two years and spent another ten years riding out at the Royal Western India Turf Club near Mumbai.
Ant Shapkin
Ant is Ukrainian and has been with the stable for more than three years. He had experience of all types of horses before coming to the UK, including a three-month course at the Ukrainian racing school. He plans to stay in the UK and improve is his practical experience within racing.
David Jones
David or Davvy as he is known is the yardman, maintenance, 2nd box driver and the trainer's driver on occasions! He is a great character to have around.
Mark Windsor – Chiropractor
A lot of horses get problems with their backs due to the rigors and stress involved in training and competing. Chiropractor – Mark Windsor has been connected with David Evans for more than 20 years. Mark was brought up with horses around his Shropshire home and is a qualified chiropractor for both humans and horses, qualifying from the McTimony Chiropractor College in 1984. He is a registered member of the Association of Osteologists and Society of Classical Manipulators. He has traveled extensively all over Europe treating some of the top horses in racing, eventing, show jumping and dressage, including British team horses. He runs regular clinics and does referral work for more than 80 veterinary practices.
Vet
Veterinary cover is provided by the E. M. Shirley-Bevan practice who look after most of the major National Hunt and Flat yards in the south west, as well as polo ponies. Based at Naunton near Cheltenham, they have their own laboratory and operating theatre and have been associated with the David Evans yard for six years. Ben Brain, one of four partners, principally deals with the Ty-Derlwyn string, and he specialises in surgery, particularly respiratory conditions.
Nigel Brown - Blacksmith
Nigel Brown lives right on the doorstep and has been linked with the stable for eight years. He is an accomplished blacksmith having competed in numerous competitions and gained successes at such venues as The Royal Welsh Show.
Rachel James
Rachel has been with us for over a year and really enjoys the job. She loves breaking and riding the yearlings.
Luke Draper
Luke has been with us for 2 years, partner of Rachel James, they also run a small breaking and livery yard just outside Abergavenny.
Andy Hefferman
Andy joined the team at the end of October, already riding a number of winners for us during the summer, he is a good lightweight and has a bright future.
Holly Hall
Holly came to Ty - Derlwyn in September from Newmarket, she has ridden six winners already and hoping it will not be long before she rides her first one for us!
