Our Staff & Jockeys

Meet the team!

Emma Evans

Assistant trainer and lady amateur rider – Born in Shropshire, Emma has been with the yard for 7 years after starting in racing at 17. Has spent time with Jenny Pitman, David Murry-Smith, Bryan Smart, Paul Cole and gained valuable experience during her 12 years in Lambourn and also Newmarket for Alec Stewart doing a variety of racing jobs. She has ridden 13 winners on the Flat. She also deals with most of the office duties.

Catherine G

Catherine Gannon is in tremendous form at the moment. She graduated from being Ireland's first champion female apprentice to becoming one of the leading female riders in the UK. This was emphasised when she landed her first group race with Dingle View at The Curragh. She started her racing career with John Oxx but after eight years moved to the UK in the hope of getting more opportunities. Last year she rode 48 winners and has proved a strong and determined lightweight for the stable. Her bubbly personality makes everyone smile. While riding her fair share of David's winners, she continues to ride out for the Mick Channon yard.

Richard Evans

Richard, the trainer’s youngest son, took out his amateur licence in 2007 and landed his first success under rules when guiding Ronsard to victory at Bath. He started riding at the age of four, progressing to working hunter and showjumping classes and finally to riding work at the age of 11. Since November 2007, Richard has turned apprentice and done really well riding 50 winners and getting down to his 3lb claim. He gets on very well with Bathwick Bear and rode him to Listed Race victory at Ripon recently.

Tara Mitchell

Tara is from Llananthony and has worked with horses all her life, including handling stallions, breaking young stock and working in the trekking industry. She has worked at the stable for seven years and is very experienced in dealing with difficult horses. She enjoys going racing and turns her horses out to a very high standard.

Rebecca Dagge

Rebecca is from Hereford and enjoys the best of both worlds. She joined the stable this summer having spent the winter with Venetia Williams and plans to return there at the end of the Flat season. She has ridden all her life and spent her spare time show jumping at a local level before getting involved in racing.

Kevin Lundie

Kevin, who is from Coventry, had no experience of horses when he joined the yard straight from school. He has now had more than 30 rides and landed his first winner with Bell The Boy for trainer Brian Ellison.

Pam Hall

Pam, who has run the office for six years, has an equestrian background, having competed in show jumping events across the UK and ridden in point-to-points. Away from her office duties, she enjoys race horse ownership and has been involved in such good winners as Heaven or Hell, Miss Phoebe and Green Lagonda.

Babu Singh

Babu is from Jodhpur, Rajasthan in India. He has been at Tyderlwyn for two years and spent another ten years riding out at the Royal Western India Turf Club near Mumbai.

David Jones

David or Davvy as he is known is the yardman, maintenance, 2nd box driver and the trainer's driver on occasions! He is a great character to have around.

Mark Windsor – Chiropractor

A lot of horses get problems with their backs due to the rigors and stress involved in training and competing. Chiropractor – Mark Windsor has been connected with David Evans for more than 20 years. Mark was brought up with horses around his Shropshire home and is a qualified chiropractor for both humans and horses, qualifying from the McTimony Chiropractor College in 1984. He is a registered member of the Association of Osteologists and Society of Classical Manipulators. He has traveled extensively all over Europe treating some of the top horses in racing, eventing, show jumping and dressage, including British team horses. He runs regular clinics and does referral work for more than 80 veterinary practices.

Vet

Veterinary cover is provided by the E. M. Shirley-Bevan practice who look after most of the major National Hunt and Flat yards in the south west, as well as polo ponies. Based at Naunton near Cheltenham, they have their own laboratory and operating theatre and have been associated with the David Evans yard for six years. Isobel Tompsett has been our main vet from the practice for the last 3 years. She is based in Wales and has been a huge asset to our team. As most of you will be aware, she is also an excellent amateur and champion point to point rider.

Nigel Brown - Blacksmith

Nigel Brown lives right on the doorstep and has been linked with the stable for eight years. He is an accomplished blacksmith having competed in numerous competitions and gained successes at such venues as The Royal Welsh Show.

Luke Draper

Luke,23, has been with us for 2 years. He is the partner of Rachel James and  they run a small breaking and livery yard just outside Abergavenny. Luke also has own landscaping business and was responsible for the construction of the stable's new barn and menage. He studied sports science at Worcester university.

Megan Evans

David Evans's daughter Megan is 19 and has recently started working for us. After leaving school, she gained valuable experience working for Richard Kent at Mickley Stud in Shropshire. She enjoys attending all the yearling sales and takes a keen interest in the bloodstock world. She rides out a couple of lots each morning and goes racing several times a week.

Alice Kenyon and Greg Davies

Partners Alice and Greg both work at the stable. Alice is from Hereford and has worked at the Usk Valley Stud. Her family has always kept horses and she enjoys hunting. Greg was a gamekeeper before moving to Tyderlwyn.

Matthew Cosham

Matthew Cosham, 22, is the stables lightweight apprentice and has been doing really well this season with treble successes with Fred Willetts and I Confess and two wins each on Your Gifted and Memphis Man. He hails from Norfolk and is a product of the Newmarket Racing School. He rode his first winner at Lingfield, claims 5lbs, is not far short of 30 winners in his creer

Harriat Francis

Harriat,25, has worked at trekking centres in the area, enjoys showjumping and runs her own breaking yard with partner Luke Draper and she comes from a family that has always owned horses.
